Ah crap

It came back.  On my face...my chin...and around my lip.  It had 99% repigmentation of my face by using elidel in the morning and protopic at night.

The derm specialised in vitiligo that I saw could not even really see my vitiligo. I had to show him a pic of my face before.  But now it's back...and spring is here and I will be spending tons of time outside with my kids.

I have restarted using elidel/protopic.  Hopefully the result will just as great as a couple years back...but i'm afraid that this second time around, I may not be as lucky.

I'm thinking of using UVB as well.

Does anyone here own a personal lamp?

  • How long did it take you to repigment off of protpoic and elidel? If I may ask, about how much vitiligo did this cure, as in what did you start with? Im not sure how to phrase this question sorry.
I used to protopic alone when i was first diagnosed and it helped with small dots on my arms. Right now Im doing excimer laser treatment and protopic and triamcinilone (prolly spelled that wrong). I barely started so i cant say if its helping but i think it just might be. I havent tried UVB sorry.
    • For me to see freckles appear on my chin, I would say it took 2-3 weeks of daily application.  From that point on it just got better and better.  Eventually I stopped applying it....I should have continued but it just kind of fell out of my routine.

I have read that protopic is most effective on the face...which is where I have vitiligo.

I know nothing about excimer laser, sorry.

      • ohh yea sometimes I get small dots on my face but they always just go away, really. My dermatologist just prescribed me elidel for the dots on my face because she said it's not as harsh as triamcinolone. Yeah it's hard to stick to treatment, but we gotta do it right

I've heard that the face is the easiest to treat, and that has been the case for me. I would recommend sunlight and oil for the face. It helped me rid me of my facial vitiligo when I was younger and I had a couple of dime sized spots near my eyebrow.

        okay thanks anyway :)

  • Introduction:

There are very few cases that a cream by itself  re-pigments vitiligo patches.  These are exceptions.

It's hard to believe that someone might achieve cure or even stability without a Functional Treatment support.

When isolated corrective actions are taken, pigmentation might appear, but followed by later de-pigmentation.

I'm convinced that the only way to counter attack vitiligo is following a Functional Treatment (FT).

I haven't seen a case yet that a FT didn't improve vitiligo.  Stop spreading is the main goal.  Re-pigmentation comes later.

FT takes in consideration 3 approaches, as follows:

    1- Basic Preemptive Actions

Diet (gluten-free), vitamins, minerals, trace nutrients, anti-fungals, probiotics and Omega 3.

    2-Basic Corrective Actions

UVB-NB, pseudocatalase, protopic (face), and/or Elidel.

    3-Generic Actions

Life style change (get rid of people that make you feel bad; try to be part of a group, i.e. someone important and relevant.  Find another group if necessary)

Stop physical traumas: friction, hits, sun burns, scratches etc.

*It's a pity, but martial art is not a good option because of the constant traumas it causes.

*Yoga is great (thanks to Mark's suggestion)

    Conclusion (same as introduction):

There are very few cases that a cream by itself  re-pigmented vitiligo patches.  These were exceptions.

It's hard to believe that someone might achieve cure or even stability without a FT support.

When isolated corrective actions are taken, pigmentation might appear, but followed by later de-pigmentation.

I'm sure that the main rule, that works to most people, with rare exceptions, is following a Functional Treatment.   More detais at: www.vitiligomap.com/protocol.html
