Hi, I joined this group as my baby girl who is 5 months old  has been diagnosed with vitilgo. White patches appeared on her legs but then started to develop pigment again. Does anyone have experience of vitilgo from such a young age? So far she is the only one in the family that has vitilgo so it's all very new to us ..it's a bit of a shock but I'm glad that it's only something cosmetic. Thanks for your support x

  • Thank you Karen. I will look into that book as I want to be there for my daughter. The difficult part for me is blaming myself that I did something wrong during pregnancy. I'm breast feeding so I'm not sure whether my milk is helping her or not :/

The doctor that I've been to has sort of brushed his hands from it and has not given us any hope. But looking at this community and seeing how some are positively dealing with it helps me.
  • There is a book online written by a dad who helped his daughter recover. Google "Emilys Vitiligo" written by her dad Eric Fricker it's been the best sources of information I have found. He finally got her to repigment, it took years. Yes it is a shock; but with guidance, love, and support she will grow up to love herself as I can tell you are very positive to see it's only a cosmetic thing. Good luck.

  • In rare cases vitiligo has been known to repigment, particularly in younger children since their cells are multiplying at such a rapid rate as they grow.  Unfortunately the reverse is true as well and some children see VERY rapid expansion of their vitiligo for that exact same reason.

The trick is to be vigilant.  Your daughter has presented with vitiligo which may still be lurking behind the scenes even if she should completely regain her pigment.

    • Thanks Michael. In fact my daughter seems to be experiencing both . Whilst her legs are repigmenting a new patch on her back is appearing . Can you kindly explain further about being v viligant ?
  • It's rare but possible.  Try to find a good doctor.  Avoid sun between 9AM to 4PM.
