Shout-out to my friends in India

I was at the Vitiligo Center in Henry Ford Hospital last week to get my rapidly spreading vitiligo checked.

I was told that my case was unstable and would need steroids (oral) to control further spread.

However, the use of this steroid comes with abundant side effects. Hence, I have chosen to try other things before I use the steroids. Below are some alternatives suggested by the specialist.

1. Unani medicine by Dr. Waheed (http://drwaheedvitiligo.com/Vitiligo.aspx)

2. Full body treatment with NB-UVB lamps. (I am considering building one as my insurance may not cover it at doctors facility or for home use.)

3. Ginko Biloba tablets

4. Alpha Lipoic acid tablets

5. Possible ayurvedic treatment in India (http://www.jrksiddha.com/products/tolenorm_oil.html

Looks like there is a lot of development in India. I see plenty of my friends here are from India. I would like to know if any of you have tried Unani or Ayurveda options?

For now, I am on gluten free, vegetarian diet. I am avoiding all sour veggies and fruits. No alcohol or flavored drinks.

I will be in India in September. I hope to meet some ayurvedic specialists and Dr. waheed in Hyderabad.

Cheers!

  • Clebetasol works
    • Thanks Sheila.  Can you tell me more about it?

  • No offense intended to some of these Indian places and remedies, but come on -- it's as I've said before:

"it seems it is easy for doctors to recommend cures that involve diets that are impossible for most to adhere to strictly.  Then, when their script fails to produce, they can blame the patient.  "Did you eat a pickle?  It must have been that. I want to see the science behind pickle consumption as causation for Vitiligo."

Some common sense, please:  When the good doctor blames Vitiligo on having sex within one hour of eating, well ... at minimum we can sympathize that his partner will never know whip cream and chocolate sauce as a part of their ... ritual.

I've never tried it personally but according to SOME (link below), then by the looks of all of you here, you must really love the stuff.

If eradicating pre-post sex food worked, imagine telling your friends how you cured your disease.  Maybe that's why a cure is so secretive!

Tongue in cheek here, this is what I'm saying -- these docs blame everything under the sun to make certain you can't comply.  If your spouse calls you with a come-hither look after enjoying a nice meal together, or if breakfast in bed leads to an amorous encounter one lovely morning, BAM! Your skin turns white, and I can imagine them saying -- "you deserved it -- you did not listen! Having sex with the smell of curry lingering on your breath!  Also, you should not have had that piece of cheese on top of your fish fillet for lunch -- it is no wonder you've turned white in places...."

I can imagine few things worse than giving false hope based on rubbish like that.  Can you imagine our cave dwelling ancestors looking at the sun's shadow from the tree, timing one hour after eating?  Guffaw.

  • Hi i am 24yr old and i am suffering from vitilgo since i was 3yr old.. i have tried Auryeda, alopathy, homepathy and all but it never worked out for me.. the above things which u have mentioned are new to me.. It Feels good to see that there are new treatments emerging out for vitiligo. From my experience i would say that at last it all depends upon your body reaction to the treatment. I have recently seen about the vitilgo treatment on television and i am not sure whether it will work out for you or not.. But as per the way they were explaining the facts regarding vitiligo i feel it might work..just try here once http://www.kayakalpglobal.com/

I have suggested about above clinic on other post also but i cant assure about it.. Its just my opinion. Thank you

    • i already tk treatment frm thr for 3 months but no use

  • Yes am also using medicines same like that from other ayurveda doctor he is treating vitiligo from last 35 years they are not saying what medicine it is .. From last 3 years no spot seen have total 5 spots, 2 already covered , spot on lip not seen any improvement, i never stop eating Non-veg and milk products i think i  should stop them ..

try Extract from Ganga ravi (The bark of a tree)   it shows nice improvement

  • I've been a vegetarian for 19 years.  Strict vegan, plus no oil, for 1.5 years.  For 17.5 years, I supplemented with fish.  I did not drink dairy, but would have cheese, with a primary focus on vegetables.

It is during years 16 through 19 of this diet that I developed Vitiligo.  I attribute it to stress and heredity more than anything else.

Folks, it seems it is easy for doctors to recommend cures that involve diets that are impossible for most to adhere to strictly.  Then, when their script fails to produce, they can blame the patient.  "Did you eat a pickle?  It must have been that."

I want to see the science behind pickle consumption as causation for Vitiligo.

  • Hi can you please feedback on the improvement...I would also like to take treatment from Dr.waheed
    • Hi Kanchan,
