vitiligo around my eyes

Hi everybody

I am asking anyone who can help me to hide my white patches near and around my eyes.

I have tried the make up but find it difficult to use in some patches where the skin is very smooth and does not take any make up on it,   Any views

  • Dermablend definitely.

  • There used to be some great makeup videos on this website where they show you how to apply the make up, and she recommended certain make ups. I really like bare minerals I use their creamy concealer and their stroke of light eye brightener under my eyes in the shape of a V, I use the concealer around my mouth because that is where I am losing my pigment. Prior to my vitiligo I was pale skinned. I have realized it is less noticeable to not use heavy make up on my face. There is a girl named Jacly Hill I found her on pinterest she used to work for MAC and she does great tutorials. I also recommend going to Sephora (it's my favorite) or different make up counters until you find someone who can help you. Be honest with them and you will be surprised how much they will help you. Sephora is great about giving you samples before you buy anything. There is also a brand of make up called dermablend I have vit on my leg so I use it sometimes to cover it if I have a special occasion that I don't want to see it. This make up is very thick I don't recommend it for the face but you never know it might work for you. But make up is my only suggestion, it's finding the right texture for you maybe.

  • Mimi, I oftentimes use a green concealer on the worst spots, then go over that green with coverup makeup (sometimes several coats, let dry in between)...the green seems to help tone down the "glare" of the whiter areas a bit and no if you go over it with a good pigmented foundation or concealer, it doesn't show as green at all, it just blends better overall....Trial and error have made me believe that what works one week or even day won't work the next.  Keep experimenting though!  As women we are lucky that we have makeup to help, most men don't feel comfortable using it.  I have also used Dermablend with some success although the degree of coverage wasn't as lasting as a good foundation in my opinion (and it's expensive).  I have found that the liquid foundation ColorStay by Revlon lasts a looooong time and is well pigmented.  Maybe I will go as far as to suggest using two colors of the foundation, one darker for whiter spots then one that matches your normal skin for overall coverage (and yes use it over the darker one after concealing with it)....here is a good example....Dermablend (a small pot of it) will last for months and months but may not last for as long as say Revlon Colorstay, used in two shades.....Dermablend runs around $50-60 plus shipping whereas you can purchase ColorStay at a drugstore for about $13 per bottle ($26 for two and sometimes Walgreens runs sales where you can buy one and get the other for 50% off)...and it lasts for months and months also and stays PUT for long hours at a time.  I hope this helps....(p.s. I have the worse spots near my eyes also, the Colorstay stays put better on there than the Dermablend does/did)....

    • Victoria secrets has a little compact with green coverup makeup it was on sale for $15 I didn't buy it but thought about it...it comes with several different concealer colors. Good luck. Even dermablend if you can buy at Dilliards they will give you samples don't spend tons of money on something until you know it will work for you.

    • Hi Tina

I am definitely going to try Color Stay and see how it works on my skin.  Thank you so much for the reply.  I have

tried several make ups and now use Veil cream but It does not do a good matching even after mixing colors.

I have a brown skin going light brown in winter so the color combination for make changes.  I am sure I will have to do that for the rest of my life as you know

      • Mimi, you are very welcome.  I agree that the skin near/around our eyes is a different texture than the rest of our face and therefore harder to cover in general.  But that being said, try the ColorStay (I apply mine with a smallish brush as I also have some vit on the inner corner of my eye).....it seems to work the best so far, I also try to "set" it with a light dusting of powder after application.  Again, you may need more than one coat to cover adequately but it's the best thing I have found so far.  Good luck and hope it works for you!!!  :)

  • I use dermablend and it works just as fine in the area around the eyes. I also recommend some tone corrector for a more natural look.

    • Hi Hector

Thank you very much for the reply.  Somebody else has also suggested dermablend.  I will see how it goes.   Thanks once again

      • Just make sure to use the compact powder presentation for maximum coverage, they also sell sticks and liquid foundation but they are not as effective in concealing vitiligo. In my country they only sell sticks and liquid and I have to use ebay to get the compact powder presentation imported, takes almost two months to get it delivered though...
