Young Indian Woman with Vitiligo

I think, being a woman, vitiligo is more an impairment than a man in India. I would see so many relatives and neighbours of ours showing their worry to my mother that how difficult it is going to be for them to find a suitable match for me.

I have observed very closely that it is far more easy for a man to get a match even with numerous issues, but, when it comes to a woman...everything should be perfect....#Unfair

  • i agree. but the tension level same for both.

  • Here in the U.S., it appears equally devastating.  My struggle with vitiligo is now over, as I completely depigmented myself.  However, I remember well how sad I was when it affected my face.  I knew  if I didn't "correct" it, it would continue to challenge my  quality of my life. I should have my website up early 2018, which will go over some of the myths about depigmentation (e.g., that you'll look ghostly white) and tips for depigmentation (e.g., often it's done incorrectly and the person ends up repigmenting or not completely depigmenting).  No one who I don't tell my story guesses that I'm completely depigmented.  In fact, I quite often get compliments on the appearance of my skin. Who would have guessed?

I'm wishing you all success, regardless of the way you decide to treat your vitiligo.

    Kindest regards,

    Jackie

  • May be true for other disorders like baldness, physically challenged, colour , height..... where men accepted easily.

But in case of Vitiligo I feel both genders are treated in the same manner. A boy with Vitiligo will not be accepted by Girls family and vice versa.

So let's not blame Vitiligo for Social Injustice which is pr-existent in society.

  • Everyone has same feeling. Male thinks that female has not much difficulties than male. We have same  feelings.

    • Yes. I totally agree. Either they ask more dowry or reject for having viti.. I don't know why this happen.. Stil in confusion

  • i am agree with your post because our indian society is male dominant since ancient time.

but we have to change such things, it depends on the attitude of society. village area has high rate of ignorance as compare to city area.

it means education and awareness matters !! nothing else, after 50 years such unfair things will be equal.

  • You are very true!  This happens in Indian societies only and probably never happen anywhere else.  However, this totally unfair in my views.  Why only for matrimonial purpose?  Does vitiligo patients dont have any other social issues apart from it?

  • Hey it's not so.. Wn comes to Vitiligo..all are equal sufferers.. Only self motivation help..thats to only to an extent :)
