Hair Color

Will the hair always lose color on the area of skin where there is vitiligo? I would think so since there is no pigmentation, but just curious what others have experienced. Thanks :-)

  • My pleasure!  Thank you for your kind words .

What area do you live in, Tom?  I ask because I'm curious as to the UVR levels in your immediate environment.

    Kindest regards,

    Jackie

  • No, not at all, even when I forget to put on my sunscreen. I should add I've been depigmented for eight years.

    • Wow!

Jackie, I admire you for your decisive action.  Thank you, so much for sharing this encouraging information.

I may have more questions for you as time goes on.  I appreciate you being there.

    • I've had the same experience as Tom, i.e.my brown body hair is still brown in,depigmented skin areas (I opted for complete skin depigmentation).

      • Thanks for sharing this, Jackie.  Do you scald in the sun, or how do you handle it?  I'm in the sun perspiring, regularly applying sun block. (And eating that stuff around my mouth as a consequence.)

  • Almost all of my left eyebrow is surrounded by vitiligo but only a very small section of my eyebrow have turned white, so it doesn't always affect the whole area but sometimes it can. As for my hair, my hair colour has not been affected at all in the long time I've had vitiligo.
  • My hair every where turned white milk white, and every where but  iit looks beautiful

  • Recently, I met a girl with segmental vitiligo localized only to one large pattern on her face. Her eyebrow hair within the area with vitiligo had no color. On the other hand, I have non segmental vitiligo. My hair within depigmented areas still has color.

  • I have dark brown hair. For me, none of my hair has lost color in areas of vitiligo. Some areas of vitiligo that re-pigmented began at the base of my hair follicles.
