How do I . . . ?

I am trying to figure out how to manage to go to the grocery store, hair salon, dentist, etc. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Some of my thoughts have been along the lines of trying to find a hair stylist who will come to my house or going to the grocery store at night or to a different one. I appreciate your help.

  • Hi,

I hope you're well. I understand your social anxieties and feel so sorry for you that you're feeling as you are. I too have times when I feel like I want to shut myself away from the world because my confidence can be very low. I don't think this is the answer though. Yes, you can find ways to minimise social contact but it will leave you so isolated. I truly don't believe that that can ever be a good thing.

Regarding dentists and hairdressers etc-please talk to the professionals-let them understand your anxieties and maybe book in at a time when it's a bit quieter in the week? I've found my dentist is incredibly understanding and she takes her time as well as allowing me to take time to touch up my camouflage makeup etc after I've seen her. Truly, people are much kinder and more thoughtful than we give them credit for.

Please don't purposefully exclude yourself from life-you are not alone. There are millions of people with Vitiligo and so many people on here who can relate to you. Please look for counselling, talk to your friends and family members and be strong and resilient. I'm certain people who know you can see beyond your skin condition.

    Best wishes,

    Ish x
