Just found an interesting article as follows.  Please observe what damage oxidative stress can do to even normal skin (people without predisposition to vitiligo):

In today’s changing climate and environment, your skin is constantly exposed to various factors which accelerate the aging process.  It’s a very busy, very nasty little molecule called the free radical . They are unstable oxygen molecules produced in our bodies by day-to-day metabolism like circulation, breathing and digestion, etc. Free radicals are an unavoidable by-product of daily living.  They  are harmful enough that free radicals  routinely damage healthy skin cells, collagen (skin protein) , and even DNA.

More so, these free radical molecules are unleashed by external and internal factors such as : sun exposure, cigarette smoking, environmental toxins, a nutrition- poor diet high in fat, salt and sugar, excess alcohol consumption, stress, harsh soaps and detergents, and sleep deprivation.

The damage done by free radical activities then lead  and result to the myriad facial skin problems  (not to mention physical illnesses) many of us experience like :

  • pimples and acne
  • uneven pigment
  • dark circles
  • poor skin tone
  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • sagging skin,  cellulites
  • yellowing or red blotches
  • hyperpigmentation & brown discoloration
  • loss of skin radiance
  • cracked heels or very dry skin

Now guess what it can do to people with predisposition to vitiligo...
