severe sunburn

Hey all recently i went to a beach and spent 3-4 hours there during day time around 11am to 2 pm. I got blistered sunburn over my both the hands ,above eyebrows and near neck as they were exposed to direct sunlight. I usually wear full sleeves excluding that day. Sunburn was more severe over the vitiligo area. Then I went to a dermatologist and its better now. But still its reddish all the time. Has anyone experienced something like this?

  • yes, but if u use some herbal medicines over the spots and than u go in the sun..within few hours the spots will starts burning and then it will starts color changes to red and than slowly to skin color....but it need atleast 7 days :)

    • What kind of herbaL things?
  • Vitiligo areas barely have melanocytes, which are the ones that produce melanin that protects our skin against the sun light spectrum.  That explains why they've got severely burned.

    So please consider 2 things:

1- Avoid sun exposure between 11AM to 4PM.  If you have to, use sun screen (brands that have zinc in its formulation).

2- Sun burns might cause vitiligo.  So, take real care about it.

    • Sun burns might really cause vitiligo? I can believe this since most of the time my new spots show up when I have abrasions or cuts on my skin.

      • sun burn, scratches and stress all these are major cause in my case. avoid such things.

      • All these (sun burns, scratches, cuts, hits, punchs, violent moves, etc.) are under physical trauma umbrella.

        They all cause vitiligo.

    • Yes i am following tha same. Doctor told me the same reason as you mentioned.
